The Zenrock Ecosystem Offerings

Zenrock offers a suite of innovative tools aimed at enhancing security, performance, and usability for both developers and users. Here’s an overview of their core products:

zrSign

This is a Solidity-based smart contract solution for developers on EVM networks. zrSign allows these developers to interface with Zenrock’s multiparty computation (MPC) system through two versions: zrSign Direct and zrSign Omni.

zrSign Direct lets developers send direct requests to Zenrock’s MPC Federation, storing responses in the smart contract and enabling other decentralised applications (dApps) to access assets directly. In contrast, zrSign Omni forwards requests to zrChain, providing workspace management and additional features like policy controls and keyring choices.

Both versions facilitate key and signature requests, but zrSign Omni integrates more extensively with zrChain for EVM developers. This solution uses MPC technology to secure signing requests across supported networks, allowing developers to request digital signatures without exposing private keys, thereby enhancing security and simplifying the development process.

zrChain

zrChain also known as Zenrock Chain serves as the core of the Zenrock ecosystem, facilitating key requests, keyring registration, and management. Built on the Cosmos SDK, it enables signature generation and policy control for multi-party signatures and authorisations and integrates smart contracts through Rust-based CosmWasm. zrChain enhances functionalities found in zrSign.

The platform features advanced identity and asset management modules, a robust policy engine governing request processing within its keyring, and tools that simplify multi-party computation (MPC). It also manages keys and assets via collaborative workspaces, allowing users to request keys and signatures for cross-blockchain interactions.

Developers can create dApps on zrChain using CosmWasm smart contracts, leveraging the platform’s comprehensive features and benefiting from economic security measures that penalise validator misconduct through Eigenlayer integration.

zenBTC

This is Zenrock’s wrapped Bitcoin product that uses decentralised multi-party computation (dMPC) to enhance security and transparency. Unlike centralised wrapped Bitcoin solutions, ZenBTC distributes the management of Bitcoin private keys across multiple federated dMPC nodes, reducing the risk associated with a single custodian. ZenBTC can function as a wrapped token on various networks, primarily through the zrChain platform, improving its versatility and accessibility across different blockchain ecosystems.

The Technical Architecture of Zenrock Labs

The Zenrock System Architecture is a sophisticated framework that leverages blockchain technology to provide a secure and efficient multi-party computation (MPC) system. This architecture is tailored to manage a variety of use cases, ensuring robust security and seamless coordination across multiple parties.

At the core of the Zenrock architecture lies the Zenrock Blockchain, serving as the primary ledger and source of truth for the system. As noted earlier, this blockchain is pivotal in coordinating essential operations such as key requests, key management, and signature management. It supports a comprehensive policy control mechanism, allowing multiple parties to govern and control signature processes effectively.

Zenrock’s MPC protocol enhances digital asset security by generating and distributing independent secrets derived from a private key across a network of MPC nodes. During transaction requests, each node computes its share, which are then combined and submitted to the zrSign smart contract or zrChain.

Zenrock employs a distributed Multi-Party Computation (dMPC), introducing innovative features such as non-interactive signature schemes for improved efficiency, proactive key refreshing to mitigate collusion risks, accountability through identifiable aborts, and compatibility with EdDSA for Solana. These advancements facilitate a more performant and trust-minimized approach to Web3 key management across multiple blockchains.

Zenrock implements a restaking feature, wherein Ethereum (ETH) can be reinvested to bolster the system’s economic security. The blockchain also incorporates standard functionalities from the Cosmos ecosystem, including staking and governance, ensuring a familiar and robust operational environment.

Several additional modules complement the central blockchain, each designed to handle specific aspects of the system. The Identity Module manages workspaces and keyrings, which are essential for organizing and securing digital identities within the system. The Treasury Module oversees key requests and signature management, ensuring these critical operations are handled securely and efficiently. Governance policies are defined and managed through the Policy Module, while the Validation Module allows for the use of additional collateral via restaked ETH, thereby enhancing the system’s economic security.

User interaction with the Zenrock Blockchain is facilitated through self-hosted wallets or registered keyrings, enabling users to perform various operations, including staking and participating in governance processes. This setup ensures active and secure engagement with the blockchain.

A key feature of Zenrock’s architecture is its use of keyrings, which are off-chain systems designed for the creation and management of cryptographic keys and signatures. Developers have the flexibility to create and register custom keyrings tailored to their specific needs. The enterprise-grade MPC system within Zenrock provides diversified control and risk management, making it suitable for complex and high-stakes environments.

Relayers play a crucial role in transaction management within the Zenrock system. They are responsible for compiling unsigned transactions and signatures, which are then broadcast to the blockchain. For private transactions, users have the option to set up their own relayers, ensuring that sensitive operations can be conducted securely and privately.

Several additional components enhance the functionality and security of the Zenrock architecture. The AVS Sidecar operates alongside the validator node, using restaked ETH as collateral to further secure the blockchain economically. The BTC Proxy component manages Bitcoin transactions and UTXOs linked to Zenrock operations, facilitating seamless integration with the Bitcoin network. Lastly, zrSign Omni is an advanced service for key and signature management that leverages Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) smart contracts, expanding the network’s capabilities and enhancing performance.

The Zenrock System Architecture offers a comprehensive and flexible framework for secure blockchain interactions. By focusing on key management, signature processing, and economic security, and integrating various modules and components, Zenrock ensures a robust and scalable solution for multi-party computation in the blockchain space.

The Zenrock Labs Tokenomics

Zenrock’s native token, known as ROCK, is central to the network’s ecosystem, aimed at creating a sustainable community of node operators to secure user assets and activities. The primary uses of ROCK include aligning interests among partner protocols and promoting necessary user behaviours. Under a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) model, ROCK functions as both the gas and governance token for the Zenrock Protocol.

As a gas token, it covers transaction fees and operational costs within the network, including those for the distributed MPC (dMPC) service. As a governance token, it empowers token holders (stakers) to vote on protocol changes, such as upgrades and managing the Ecosystem Fund, fostering a decentralised, community-oriented approach.

ROCK adheres to Cosmos token standards, with a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens and no inflation. The Zenrock Foundation Ecosystem Fund aims to support various node operators and promote ecosystem growth through incentives like developer grants and partnership bonuses. The initial token distribution will follow unlock schedules, with staked tokens immediately contributing to the available supply.

The Zenrock Protocol’s unique three-node architecture ensures decentralised security. This setup includes Validator Nodes for transaction consensus, MPC Nodes for managing key shards and signatures, and an Actively Validated Security (AVS) Auxiliary Service linked to Ethereum for enhanced security. This architecture allows Zenrock to scale effectively while maintaining network integrity and security.

Economically, the Node Reward Pool (NRP) will initially bootstrap the network and later generate a token surplus managed by governance. Users interacting with the Zenrock network incur fees, payable in ROCK or the gas token of their application. The Zenrock Foundation will hold reserves in ROCK or ETH to ensure sustainability.

Fees collected are strategically allocated to sustain key ecosystem elements. A portion is burned to prevent oversupply, while the rest is distributed to wallets, the NRP, and the Foundation. These strategies stabilise the ecosystem and ensure financial health for all participating nodes.

Zenrock has established a protocol wallet to maintain funds and support long-term network goals. A percentage of transaction fees is directed to this wallet, ensuring continual functionality and stability. The inflow to the OpEx Pool is governed by fixed rates determined by governance.

In Zenrock governance, tokenholders of the $ROCK token have voting rights, enabling them to propose and vote on initiatives while engaging in public discussions. An independent Security Council assesses the feasibility of proposals, and the Zenrock Foundation supports the implementation of successful initiatives. This structure ensures a robust, participatory, and secure governance framework for the network.
